Abi was his first girlfriend. When she said she loved him, he was taken by surprise but kind of agreed. They got married, but she made all the arrangements for the wedding.

When she became pregnant, it was because she decided it was time and stopped taking precautions, but Will thought Sophie was the most beautiful baby in the world when she was born.

Added February 20, 2012

When Bill Baroni was just twenty years old, he was convinced he was dying. He thought he was having a heart attack because it felt like he had an elephant sitting on his chest. It turned out to be only indigestion, but more than that, it was the wake up call he needed to save his life. Bill weighed 320 pounds and was hooked on junk food. He set about to change his life forever, and now in Fat Kid Gets Fit, he wants to help you do the same.

How this resourceful girl’s fortunes change again is at the center of A Little Princess, one of the best-loved stories in all of children’s literature.

Four Kitchens: My Life Behind the Burner in New York, Hanoi, Tel Aviv, and Paris

Four Kitchens by Lauren Shockey
Nonfiction; Food; Memoir
Added February 20, 2012

At the French Culinary Institute, Lauren Shockey learned to salt food properly, cook fearlessly over high heat, and knock back beers like a pro. But she also discovered that her real culinary education wouldn’t begin until she actually worked in a restaurant. After a somewhat disappointing apprenticeship in the French provinces, Shockey hatched a plan for her dream year: to apprentice in four high-end restaurants around the world. She started in her hometown of New York City under the famed chef Wylie Dufresne at the molecular gastronomy hotspot wd-50, then traveled to Vietnam, Israel, and back to France. From the ribald kitchen humor to fiery-tempered workers to tasks ranging from the mundane (mincing cases of shallots) to the extraordinary (cooking seafood on the line), Shockey shows us what really happens behind the scenes in haute cuisine, and includes original recipes integrating the techniques and flavors she learned along the way. With the dramatic backdrop of restaurant life, readers will be delighted by the adventures of a bright and restless young woman looking for her place in the world.

Verdict: Keep

This week I removed 3/5, which is still great! I’m now at 64/95.

My Week in Review 2017 #43

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

My life continues to be a whirlwind. My official start date in my new store is November 5th, so I have a week to get things finalized here and get moved up there. As I am writing this {Friday}, I still have a lot of uncertainties that will hopefully all be resolved by Monday. Not the least of which is where will I live?!?!

I have had an incredibly successful Blog Ahead so far and there are still a few days left to finish things up. So far I have written over 40 posts that will go live after November 1st and into 2018. I’ll try to post a final recap on Wednesday with my full totals.

The Friday 56~ The Burning Page

It’s time for another edition of The Friday 56, a weekly meme hosted by Freda’s Voice.

Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that’s ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it)
*Post it.
*Link up.

This week I chose to feature The Burning Page by Genevieve Cogman.

The Burning Page (The Invisible Library, #3)

“She had to find a way to protect them– all of them. And she had to talk to her superiors, urgently. The time for professional detachment was over.”

Book Beginnings~ To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

I’ve added some additional memes to my repertoire and am linking up with Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader.

This meme is a fairly simple concept, we share the first line or so from a current read. This week I’m featuring To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, #1)

Josh is Margot’s boyfriend, but I guess you could say my whole family is a little in love with him. It’s hard to say who most of all. Before he was Margot’s boyfriend, he was just Josh. He was always there. I say always, but I guess that’s not true. He moved next door five years ago but it feels like always.

This could be trouble…

Book Blogger Hop #17

I am linking up with Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer for the Book Blogger Hop. And what is the Book Blogger Hop? Well according to the meme’s page:

Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This week’s question:

Candy Corn, a chocolate bar, or Popcorn. Which of these snacks are your favorite to eat while reading? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

Popcorn is one of my favorite snacks, though I always make sure to have plenty of napkins if I’m eating it while reading so I don’t get too much grease on the pages {or smudge my Kindle}. I try to avoid chocolate while reading due to the messy factor.

Thirsty Thursday & Hungry Hearts~ Bay of Sighs

Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts - (un)Conventional Bookviews

I’m participating in Thirsty Thursday & Hungry Hearts, hosted by Lexxie over at {un}Conventional Book Views again this week.

What is Thirsty Thursday & Hungry Hearts? Well here’s a description from Lexxie’s site:

The idea of this feature is to share a quote with food or drinks that showed up in a recent read, as well as if it’s something you think you’d like or not. Please share the title of the book it happened in, as well as the character who ate or drank the special little something you discovered between the pages of a good read. Each week there is a link-up for the current post so that it’s easy to find other participants as well.

This week I am featuring Bay of Sighs by Nora Roberts. This scene takes place between Annika {a mermaid} and Sawyer {a traveler} in the kitchen. {pg. 97-98}

Bay of Sighs (The Guardians Trilogy, #2)

She liked wine and helping Sawyer make dinner, so enjoyed both. She got to make something he called bruschetta– cutting the long bread in half, toasting it– while he cooked chicken for the dish he called alfredo.
“Remember how to mince?”
“Cut up, very, very small.”
“Very small, those Roma tomatoes and that garlic.”
She applied herself to it, imagining how nice it would be to cook with him like this without the bruises from training or the thoughts of fighting ahead.

Thursday Quotables~ Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock

quotation-marks4

Because I love sharing quotes from books, the more random the better, I decided to join Bookshelf Fantasies for Thursday Quotables to highlight some great quotes from the books I’m reading.

This week I’m featuring quotes from Matthew Quick’s Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock.

Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock

1

We look at each other in our Bogart hats and it’s like we’re communicating, even though we’re completely silent.
I’m trying to let him know what I’m about to do.
I’m hoping he can save me, even though I realize he can’t.

 2

I like thinking all alone in the auditorium even when there is no violin music.

3

I didn’t like it at all, but I didn’t say anything.
Why?
I should have said something– not just to stick up for myself, but because I think Asher wanted me to save him.
