My Week in Review 2017 #21

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

We have been graced with gorgeous weather over the last week, and now that I finally have days off again, I am planning my picnic at the park with books. It also means I needed to pick up some summer clothes, so I grabbed some shorts & tank tops recently… now I just need sandals.

Unfortunately, I’ve lost access to the digital library on my computer. I do still have access from my phone, so I’m still able to check out books that way. I figure it’s only a matter of time before I lose access altogether. I have plenty of ebooks and physical books to keep me going, but I’m really going to miss having audio books in the car until I can find a new source… any suggestions? Free sources are preferred, but something inexpensive with access to multiple books per month would also be acceptable.

Life Happenings:

Another week down and this should be my last long week at work… at least for now. This means that I’ll be able to get more reading done and hopefully fit in a visit to see Cheshire soon. My apartment hunt is also back on with a vengeance.

I found a bunch of YA paperbacks on sale at Target this week, and refrained from going completely crazy… I only bought 3 books.

Life Happenings:

As of this week I’ve met my original Goodreads goal for the year. I realized quite early that I was going to knock it out of the park, so went back and updated it to my current goal early in February. I’m trending to beat that goal too, but I don’t want to raise it again considering how little time I’ve had to read lately {aside from audio books}. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like my schedule is going to settle down any time soon.

But the weather has been gorgeous with bright sunny days and temperatures in the 80s. I have big plans to spend some time at one of the local parks with a picnic and some books once I have some time off.

Life Happenings:

Well, life keeps moving along. This is the last month for my county library system, so I’m focusing on books from the library as much as possible this month to try to get through my wish list there. While I generally only listen to audio books in the car, I’ve taken to listening at home as well right now. The only problem is I’m starting to run out of available books. Most of the books on my list are wait-listed right now and I know that my access to the digital library is going to expire before most of them become available.

My Week in Review 2017 #17

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

As I mentioned last week, I saw Beauty and the Beast Sunday night. I absolutely loved it!

I also started another new meme this week, because as we have already determined, I am crazy. Of course, life is crazy busy right now, so it will probably be a few weeks at least before I start another one. I’m still working on scheduling this one.

April was my slowest reading month this year, though I still finished 10 books which is amazing. Of course almost all of those were audio books, so that should tell you about my reading time for the month… it was virtually nil. I am really hoping things will settle into place at work and I’ll be able to spend more time actually reading in May, though the way this last week of April has gone, that might be a pipe dream.

This weekend also marks Cheshire’s 4th Birthday! Sadly my crazy schedule meant I couldn’t get up to see him, but I sent some presents and lots and lots of love his way.

And, because my life is not complicated enough, this week brought more drama when my dad fell and broke his ankle in two places… because my parents don’t have enough medical issues already. Needless to say, my stress level is at a peak at the moment and I really want to just sit in a corner and play with books all day, but that just can’t happen… I have too much adulting to do right now.

This has just been a weird week. Between more staffing issues at work, getting sick {again}, and life in general, I didn’t get much reading done this week and I didn’t get a review up this week. I’m hoping next week will be a little more normal.

Today I’ll be having brunch with my family, then dinner out with a co-worker and movies with my team. We’re going to see Beauty and the Beast finally!

My Week in Review 2017 #15

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

I’ve scheduled all my memes out as far as they can go for the year {The Friday 56 & Thirsty Thursdays are scheduled out to the end of 2017, TTT through the list of current prompts, plus 2 freebies, and Cat Thursday through mid-October- I need more pictures!}. Of course this means I only have my update posts and reviews to write during the week. One would think that I would use the extra time for more reading, or maybe more sleep, or a multitude of other things I need to work on… but no, I’ve used the extra time to look for more memes! You can expect to see some more memes popping up here over the next several weeks, starting with Book Beginnings this week. Because I am crazy.

And because I am on a strict book budget, but I still want all the books, I picked up a bunch of free Kindle books this week. I also ended up with a $0.99 one as well because I didn’t realize I had left the free zone behind, but that’s ok, my budget does allow for a couple of inexpensive ($3.99 or less) Kindle books per month.

If you read my Bookish Community post this week {see below for a link}, you saw that my county has lost their library system. In June, the online access to Library2Go will also be eliminated for those using Douglas County library cards, so I won’t have access to my audio books until I am officially living in the city of Eugene or within Lane County {there are separate library systems in that county} unless I pay a monthly non-resident fee. That being said, I’m going to try to get through as many audio books from my list that I can over the next month or so while I still have access. I will be a lot slower with physical/digital reads for a while, but will probably clear through a lot of audio books during this time {I hope}. I’m still pretty upset that the library measure didn’t pass and that the county decided that cutting the libraries was the best solution to their budget problems. While I haven’t always been an avid library user in the past, I have always valued their importance in communities.

In completely unrelated news, my glasses came in and I am now trying to get used to the progressives. I can’t wear them to work on the computer yet because I haven’t found the right place to look through, so nothing is quite clear. I’m doing pretty well with the distance and reading portions, but as my eyes get tired through the day, have a harder time with them. I was told it can take up to two weeks to fully adjust and it’s only been a couple of days, so I’m just continuing to build on my wearing time.

My Week in Review 2017 #14

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

It only took until April, but I finally plotted out which charities I’ll be donating to for the rest of the year for the charity challenge I’m participating in. All of the charities I chose help to fund things that are personally important to me. I’ve posted the full list on the Challenge page this week if anyone is interested. There are a couple of other charities that I wasn’t able to fit in this year, so I may need to find another way to incorporate them.

This week also included a very expensive eye exam. Ok, the exam was a reasonable price, the progressive bifocals I had to get after the exam were the expensive part. Right now I only wear glasses to drive at night or watch a movie, but I’m having a harder time reading road signs and my reading vision is starting to get a little blurry when I’m fatigued. Of course I have an astigmatism, so my vision generally gets blurrier the more tired I am. The initial charge was a bit of a shock, but at least it’s not a recurring monthly charge. It’ll take 7-10 days until my glasses are ready, but I do like the frames I picked out.

The first half of the week had some great weather, then we ended the week with rain and crazy wind. It knocked out power {at the grocery store and elsewhere}, toppled trees, and blew property all over the place. I found our trash can in the wood pile and our neighbor’s basketball hoop fell. We also lost several shingles off our roof, but thankfully have had no major damage.

My week started with a visit to see Cheshire. Our visits are always so short, but now that the weather is improving, I should be able to visit more frequently… I hope.

Work was a little crazy this week as we were down a person and already short staffed, so I’m currently in the middle of a 10 day stretch. Thankfully I have a fun job and a really great team so it’s not too crazy. Plus I’ve hired some people, so that will fix the short staffed problem once we get them trained.

We continue to have lots of rain, it is Oregon after all, but are starting to see more sunny, warm days as well. Add that to the sun still shining when I get off work and my productivity is starting to soar. I love it!

My Week in Review 2017 #12

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

I was looking forward to participating in Bloggiesta for Spring because I had fun with it last year, but my schedule was too full this week to fit it in. It was review week at work and my boss came down to deliver my review and to sit in while I delivered my assistants’ reviews. This meant all of my extra time during the first half of the week was spent finalizing reviews and getting ready for the visit. {Which went great, by the way!}

I also managed to injure myself {again}, so spent the first part of the week in pain. I pinched a nerve in my lower back which then triggered some sciatica issues. Sitting was the worst, so my commutes were pretty awful. Thankfully it’s better now and I feel like myself again. I really need to start taking better care of myself so I stop having all of these weird issues and injuries.

My first Book Outlet order arrived, so many beautiful books {as you will see below}. I am still waiting for another Book Outlet order and a Book Depository order. These will probably be my last big hauls since my new strict budget goes into effect on the first.

The best news of the week, however, is that I am visiting Cheshire this weekend {so while my post is scheduled to go live on time, I will actually be linking up late in the day on Sunday}! I hate that so much time goes by between visits right now with my schedule.
