Monday Update, Stacking the Shelves, Sunday Post

My Week in Review 2018 #2

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

This week has been a struggle. And that just pretty much sums everything up. It hasn’t been bad, just really stressful and exhausting and I think my brain is just too full right now and needs a break. I have been so focused on taking care of things at work and trying to unpack everything at the apartment that I’ve forgotten to take care of myself. This is a huge no-no for me, because it’s partly through self-care that I manage my depression and anxiety. Thankfully I caught it early, I think, so I can adjust and get back on track where I need to be.

That being said, reading did not happen this week… so I am already way behind for the year, but I think I can catch up as soon as I get this apartment done. At this point I think I’d settle for one completed room! The bathroom and kitchen are really close to done, but I need to purchase things to finish both of them. The bedroom is about half-way, but the living room, office, dining room area is no where close to done. I need to purchase things for those rooms too. Thankfully most of what I need to buy is not too expensive, but I still need to budget for them right now. I can’t decide which bigger piece I should get first though… a microwave for the kitchen, a curio cabinet for the livingroom {I have 4 small boxes to be unpacked of things to go in there}, or a fourth bookcase for the bedroom {right now the books are stacked in front of the books on one of my other bookcases}. The only other higher priced item I need is a new comforter and sheets, but I can make do with what I have for now.

My Week in Review 2018 #1

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

I hope everyone’s 2018 has gotten off to a great start!

Personally, I have been drowning in boxes! It’s been a week and I feel like I am no where near unpacked yet! The important things are done {kitchen, bathroom, clothes, books}, but I just have so much stuff… it’s ridiculous and I’ll be talking about it soon. Meanwhile I continue working on unpacking more everyday after work. And I use my days off for the bigger projects. Little by little it will all get done.

In addition to all of the unpacking, I’ve also added about a million new blogs to my reader, so the process of sorting them out has begun as well. Not every blog that I added will be a good fit for me, but I don’t know until I try them out for a while. And because I am slightly OCD and have systems and routines that I need to follow for certain things… it’s kind of a long elimination process. {Maybe this ties into why I have so much stuff!}

Now that the craze of the holidays are over, focus at work has shifted to cleaning and getting back to the basics. Especially since I received very big news this week that indirectly affects my position and my store. {Nothing bad, just change} The next few months will be interesting and potentially challenging.

Because my focus has been elsewhere, I didn’t get a lot done reading-wise, so I feel like I’m already behind for the year. I’m trying not to stress over it, because that takes the fun away from reading! And I also know that once I get everything sorted, I’ll have so much more time to read than I’ve had in the last year, so I’ll catch up… it just might not be until February that it happens.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

Happy New Year! Ok, well technically New Year’s Eve! For those of you who were wondering, yes I did end up going home to spend Christmas with my family. I was in Oregon for 2 full days and it was nice to spend time with family. Though I did miss out on having my first white Christmas since it snowed in Washington, but not in the area of Oregon where my family lives.

I had my turn at being sick this week and missed a day and a half of work. Hopefully we’ll be done with it now and it won’t make a second round of the store.

After a few setbacks and delays, my furniture and stuff is finally here! I am once again able to sleep in a real bed and work at a desk! I also have dishes, books and all of my other stuff. Now I just need to unpack it all! Next week I’ll be focused on unpacking and getting my bookcases all set up. I also have furniture to build and so much cleaning {a lot of this stuff has been in storage for the last 2 years}.

I am really looking forward to getting back into a routine soon. I have felt so completely out of balance for the last 2 months while I’ve been dealing with this transition and I just really want to find my new normal now!

I’ll be launching my new look and some updated features with the new year. I hope you’ll all find something you like in the content I’ll be posting.

Life Happenings:

First of all, Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! It’s hard to believe that it’s Christmas Eve already! Next weekend is New Year’s Eve… I don’t think I’m ready! As you are reading this, I am hopefully home in Oregon with my family celebrating the holiday. There is a possibility that I won’t be able to make the trip and will have to work today instead {see below}.

I was supposed to get my furniture and books this week, but unfortunately illness has delayed the delivery for another week.Illness has also taken out several of my employees, including two of my assistants, meaning that my other assistant and I have been working a ton of hours and have been perpetually short handed… the week before Christmas… at a toy store. Needless to say, I am exhausted… and didn’t get as much reading done as I had hoped this week.

On a completely different note,I’ve always known there were a lot of book bloggers out there, but I never realized just how many there were until I started looking for more blogs to try out in 2018. Seriously, guys, there are so many! I’ve only gone through two of the most popular link ups I participate in and then have only gotten through about a third of each of these so far! That’s a lot of potential new favorites out there! I had to stop adding blogs to my Bloglovin’ feed when I got to 1,000! Of course I’ll thin that out some as I go through, but wow!

And of course, I’m still looking for more pen pals if anyone is interested!

Life Happenings:

The countdown is on for the delivery of my furniture… and books! They should be here next week and I am so excited. Mostly for the couch so I don’t have to sit on the floor, and for my bookcases and books of course!

This week I sent out a request for Pen Pals and I still have openings for quite a few states. I’m really excited about this idea, so I hope you decide to join me! Please share the post with anyone you think might be interested as well.

I got my permanent library cards for both library systems this week as well. I was very good and limited myself to just 3 books from each library… but it was hard not to grab all the titles! {Of course after I got home I realized that I actually own 2 of the titles… they’re just in boxes in Oregon!} This means I have digital access again for audio books and ebooks through the library as well, so once I complete the series I am currently working on, I’ll be dropping my Kindle Unlimited… why pay for something I can get for free?

How is next week Christmas?? I don’t even know where the time has gone! I’m working on getting all of my posts and plans ready for 2018. I already know that I’ll have some challenges this coming year with the new place and new store, but I am trying to look at it all as a new adventure… and I’m pretty excited about it. And maybe a tiny bit scared.

Life Happenings:

I finally got some reading done this week and I feel accomplished! Of course there isn’t a lot more that I can do right now with all of my stuff still in Oregon! I’ve been in my apartment for a week now and things are going well… parking is limited in my complex, but so far there have only been 2 nights that I’ve had to park on the street when I’ve gotten home late. I have another week, maybe week and a half before my furniture (and books!) should arrive. I am so looking forward to that! I can’t wait to organize my books on the shelves and hang my stuff on the walls… and to just have some furniture in here so I’m not sitting on the floor! It’s all good though.

I’m still using my friend’s wifi access, but should be able to set up my own this week. And I’ve already registered for my library card at both of the library systems in the area, I just need to pick up my physical cards within 30 days. I’ll be hitting one of the libraries on Tuesday and will probably make it to the other one on Friday. I’m looking forward to having library access again, I’ve missed it!

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

As I write this, I am sitting on the floor in the living room of my new apartment, my computer set up against the wall with the monitor sitting atop the tower and the keyboard in my lap. Because I have officially moved into my new apartment! Of course my furniture, books, and pretty much everything I own is still in Oregon and will be brought up to me in a couple of weeks. I have an air mattress in the bedroom and my yoga mat in the living room… but I’m home, and that’s the most important thing. Well, that and I only have a 15 minute commute now! Of course I need a million things for the apartment, some right away, some can wait. Since I won’t be able to do any shopping, I created an Amazon wishlist of the items I needed in the hopes that friends and kind people might help out with some of it. I’ve never done something like this before, but like helping other people when I can, so I thought I’d give it a try.

I wasn’t sure if I would have internet access for a little while, but a friend has offered me the use of their wifi until I am able to get my own account up and running, so I will still be able to update all of you on my reading and everything else! And be able to keep up with your posts as well!

I can’t wait for my bookcases and books to get here! I’ve been dying to get them set up and organized. Honestly, I don’t think I have enough shelf space for all of my books though, so I might have to get creative. I plan to post a full book shelf tour some time in January… and probably an apartment tour as well.

First, the big news… I found an apartment!!!! Finally! I don’t move in until sometime next week, but just knowing I’ve got it is a huge relief! It’s less than 10 miles from work, which means my commute will only be about 15 minutes one-way, depending on traffic. After the long commutes I’ve had, I’m pretty excited by this!

Work-wise, this week was insane. Anyone who lives in the US knows of the phenomenon which is Black Friday, the day which starts the season of getting retailers out of the red and into the black in profit and sales for the year {this is where the name comes from, if you didn’t know}. The start of the week was full of preparation, then at 6pm on Thursday night we took off with a bang and are still going!

I spent the holiday here in Washington with the friend that I’m staying with and her family. It was really nice. My family doesn’t make a huge deal over Thanksgiving, so I didn’t feel adrift at all.

Book-wise, I got a lot of audio reading done this week, though not a lot of physical reading. I have a feeling this will be the norm through the rest of the year as I move and get settled in. Plus it’s my busiest time of year at work, so that means less reading time as well.

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to post an update next week, as I’m not sure when my internet will be hooked up, but I’ll post an update as soon as I am able. In the meantime, would anyone be interested in an apartment tour once I get moved in? I plan on doing a bookshelf tour when I get my book cases set up and organized, but if you’d like to see more, I’ll be happy to do a full tour. Let me know in the comments.

Life Happenings:

Well, I’m no longer staying in the extended stay hotel… now I’m sleeping on the couch of a friend and have a 2 hour commute to work! The hunt for a new place continues! I’ve been declined for so many apartments now that I’m kind of starting to get a complex!

On another note, I’m settling in at my new store and working on getting things caught up. I’ve met the members of my team and have a pretty good crew in place. There are some things to work on, of course, but we’ll get that taken care of as we go forward.

And in bookish news… the longer commute means more time for audio books again! And I actually didn’t add anything to my shelves this week… though it’s been hard to resist the big, beautiful book store I pass every day. I am not allowed to buy any books until I am in my own place again!

Monday Update, Stacking the Shelves, Sunday Post

My Week in Review 2017 #45

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

This week has been an adventure! On Sunday I drove up to Washington and checked into an extended stay hotel. Then on Monday I started at my new store. So far I have been meeting my new team and seeing what needs to be taken care of to get the store where it needs to be. I have continued on my housing search, but at this point am still without a permanent address. There were a couple of places that were close, and one roommate situation that I really considered, but it just wasn’t the right fit for me, or for Cheshire, so the search continues.

Hotel living has been interesting. My room has a little kitchenette, so I’m able to prepare food here, which is good. But I’m really off center and have not been getting any reading done this week. I also haven’t done any work on the blog (aside from this post right now), so it’s a good thing I’m scheduled so far out!

My reservation will take me through Tuesday here, then I’ll be staying with a friend who lives a ways south of here. It means I’ll have a long commute again, but at least I’ll be able to listen to audio books! And I’ll be able to save more money for when I finally find an apartment.
