My Week in Review 2017 #37

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

This week has been pretty busy with work and life. We had a huge national event at work this past weekend that was a lot of fun, and now I’m getting ready for inventory. We’re also starting to gear up for the holiday season. My October is going to be insane… but fun!

In other news, my no spend month pretty much fizzled from day 1… but I picked up a bunch of great books on sale! I also got some more of the books that I won in the auction, and some free Kindle books, so my book haul is pretty big this week {see below}.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

I was incredibly lucky and won 2 prizes in the Save the Troops Auction sponsored by Anna at Herding Cats and Burning Soup. I won 2 different ebook collections, for a total of 27 ebooks and 4 audio books! I started receiving several of the books this week {see below} and am super excited to add them to my collection.

This week also brought some much needed rain mid-week. While it didn’t knock down all the fires currently burning in Oregon, it did help clear out some of the smoke from the air and provide some cooling temperatures. Of course the lightning that accompanied the rain raised the risk of more fires, but we’re trying to focus on the good.

My Week in Review 2017 #35

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

This week started out really smokey with all of the fires burning in Oregon. The air quality has been really bad and on several days there was so much smoke you couldn’t even see the hills around our house… and we’re not anywhere near the closest fires. Thankfully everything cleared out midweek, but came back towards the end of the week as the temperatures increased again.

With the poor air quality we’ve been keeping the windows closed, and with the heat creeping back up to the triple digits this week and no air conditioning, it’s been unbearably hot… and incredibly difficult to sleep. I’ll sleep for about an hour at a time, waking up over and over all night long. I feel like I’ve been a sleep-deprived zombie all week!

I am going to try to do a no spend September, but I’m worried that I won’t be successful. I work in retail so I’m surrounded with temptation every day. Plus we are getting some incredibly cute stuff at work! I’m trying to remind myself that there are more important things than getting new books (or bears) this month. {Note, the Kindle books purchased below were purchased before the end of August}.

On the blog front, I published my 500th post this week!

I don’t really have a lot to say about this past week. I worked, the eclipse happened, I did some reading, got my last book order, got some more Kindle books, and started mapping out some plans for 2018 on the blog. The coming week looks to be more of the same.

But I did have a little excitement on Friday night when I was stuck on the Freeway for a couple of hours due to a series of major accidents. There was one accident southbound and 2 accidents northbound with traffic stopped for miles in both directions. It took me 3 hours to get home rather than my usual one and was a little eerie seeing absolutely no traffic in the northbound lanes, and most of the drivers on the southbound side out of their cars and walking around. As I was going southbound, we were cleared much sooner than the northbound lanes, and I was able to see the extent of the backup as I went by. I learned after the fact that unfortunately there were major injuries requiring lifeflight and some horses lost their lives in one of the accidents. I haven’t heard any details on the other 2 accidents.

The weather has turned much nicer temperature-wise lately, hovering in the 80s for the most part. And while the nicer weather has been a breath of fresh air, the excess traffic from all of the people traveling to our area to watch the eclipse has not been. We are part of the area that will be experiencing the full eclipse, so there are a lot of people visiting this weekend to witness it.

Speaking of the eclipse, I was in elementary school during the last solar eclipse and I really don’t remember much about it. I know that we were told not to look at it, and we make telescopes out of toilet paper rolls with mirrors or something like that, so we could see a reflection of it. But I don’t remember the eclipse itself at all.

I’ve gotten kind of one-click happy again this week with the Kindle books {as evidenced below}. Almost everything was on sale or super cheap to begin with. I also got 2 of my book orders from last week {there’s still one more coming}… Hello, my name is Michelle, and I’m a book addict.

My Week in Review 2017 #32

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

My week started out with errands prepping for my trip. This included taking my car into the dealership for an oil change, tire rotation & inspection. This was my last free visit included in my warranty, but they do a great job and throw in a free car wash, so I’ll probably continue to get my service there, at least while its still under warranty. They run specials for the combined service I normally get, so it’s not too expensive now that I’ll be paying for it.

The weather where I live has cooled slightly… we’re hovering around mid-90s. Of course the area of eastern Washington that I traveled to this week still has temps in the triple digits, so I didn’t get to escape it just yet. Next week is looking to be pretty good though, mostly high-80s.

Speaking of my work trip… things did not go as smoothly as I had hoped. Not that there was anything bad, just a couple of things I didn’t expect. And the days were long and I really didn’t sleep well the two nights I was there. When I got back to my store, we were in the middle of planning for a huge event that is taking place Sunday. We’re pretty excited about it, but I spent most of my day off running around making sure that I had everything we needed.

I’ve been slumping a bit the last several weeks. I haven’t gotten a lot of physical reading done over the last month or so, though I have still been getting through a lot of audio books. This week I really focused on getting back to reading actual books, both physical and on my Kindle. I’ve also been struggling with discussion posts as well. I wrote several in advance and have some scheduled through the start of September, and I have topics planned out for the rest of the year, but I just can’t seem to get myself to write them. I’ll start working on one, then just stop because I can’t figure out what I want to say. I’m hoping that will change over the next week so I can schedule out some more before life gets crazy with the holidays.

And because this is getting long, I close out by mentioning I went on a total book buying spree again this week {as evidenced by my stacking the shelves below}. Not only did I purchase all of the books listed, I also placed 2 orders to complete my collection on some series. Amazon has some good Kindle sales right now, so I got a little one-click happy with the Kindle reads {Six of Crows is only $2.99 for Kindle}.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

This past week can be defined as HOT! We had triple digits most of the week and on Wednesday and Thursday the temperature reading in my car was 109F at 5:30pm. Needless to say I have not been very productive as there is no air conditioning in the room I’m currently using. I am really behind on blog reading and haven’t scheduled out as many posts as I would normally have. Hopefully we’ll get a break in the weather soon so it’s more tolerable for me to sit at the computer.

I’ll be traveling again for work next week, back to the store that just opened for a training check-in visit to see how things are going. After that I should be done for awhile… until we open another store in my format anyway. And we have a big annual meeting coming up the beginning of October that I’ll be traveling for as well. Thankfully I have some great assistants since I’ve been out of my store so much lately. I enjoy it though, and it helps them to prove themselves for potential promotions down the road.

Life Happenings:

So the week before last was pretty rough. I was finishing up my Week in Review post at midnight Saturday night, and still needed to finish my TTT and July Challenge Update posts as well. I rushed through posting my review and so didn’t mention really anything that had happened {and forgot to include some links that I edited to add}, so I’ll look back at some of that as well this week.

So I started out this week needing a mental health day. I don’t take them often, but once in a while I need to take some time to just be. I’ve been experiencing a lot of tension lately, and a lot of fatigue; both of which have been exacerbated by the extreme heat that has been messing with my sleep. On Monday we had extra coverage at the store, so I took one of my flex days and spent some quality time with myself. I saw The Big Sick (and cried so much), took myself out to lunch, took a walk along the river and spent some time just watching the water, enjoyed some frozen yogurt, and then took a trip to the bookstore. It all combined to help me feel centered again, which is exactly what I was looking for.

The river runs right behind my work, so after Monday’s mental health day, I made the decision to get to work a little early, walk out to the foot bridge, and spend some time near the water at least 3 times each week. I am a water sign and have always been drawn to water. I think spending some time at the river each week should help me maintain my balance while my life is in such a state of suspended transition {I know that part sounds weird, but that’s a pretty accurate assessment of my current situation}.

In other news, I started a very small blog on Live Journal to chronicle my goals for what I want to achieve by my 50th birthday… which seems so incredibly close, but is actually 4 years away. I am not planning to do a whole lot with this secondary blog, it’s mostly for myself, but if anyone wants to check it out here’s the link.

As I mentioned above, the weather has been pretty hot lately, generally high 90s, though we’re expecting triple digits again mid-week. My parents’ house doesn’t have air conditioning, so keeping cool is a challenging task. I stocked up on ice cream, because I figured a cool treat should help, right?

Life Happenings:

This week was fairly quiet. I had a few days off from work, so I worked on getting some more posts scheduled. I got a little reading done, but didn’t get through a lot. I took a lot of naps though, which is good because I have been feeling really run-down lately.

Life Happenings:

My work trip went well. We got  the new store opened successfully. I got to interact more with my boss, which is good since I generally only see him once every couple of months (our district covers parts of 3 states and he’s based in California). I should be traveling to the new store at least one more time to ensure they have everything they need and help them with additional training and organizing.

I also did a little shopping while I was there, as a birthday treat for myself. I got some costume jewelry and accessories, some new shoes for work and some sandals, and of course I got some more books. I also got a journal and a Funko Pop Dumbledore (I am slowly building my collection of Funko… I have 3 now).

Speaking of my birthday… before I left, my team gave me The Zookeeper’s Wife and my assistants each gave me a gift as well. It was super sweet. And I celebrated with my family on Saturday.
