My Week in Review 2017 #24

This is my week in review, where I update you on my life~ reading, blogging and general. I will also be linking up with some amazing blogs.

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Life Happenings:

I had so much fun doing the Get Social blog hop and hope to participate again. I was introduced to quite a few new blogs, some of which I think may become favorites. It also introduced me to a couple of new memes that I may add to my repertoire {yes, I know, I’m addicted to memes, I love them!}. And now I am also participating in Blog Ahead and Bloggiesta, so I am focusing on getting some discussion posts put together and scheduled for these challenges.

I haven’t really done anything other than work for the last week. The weather has been rainy and dreary again, so that’s a bummer.

And there is a bit of good news on the library front. While I still don’t have digital access, my local branch has re-opened as a reading room with honor system check outs. It doesn’t help with my audiobook dilemma, but it will help if I run out of reading material before I move {unless I decide to start unpacking boxes lol}. And it provides most library services for the community which I think is so incredibly important!

I did find a potential solution to the audiobook issues, however. I signed up for the free trial of Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited, which gives you access to up to 10 ebooks at a time for $9.99/month. You can read as many as you want during the month, you just have to return something if you already have 10 checked out. You don’t get to keep the books permanently, and when you return them {or cancel your subscription}, the books are removed from your devices. Pretty much like they would be with library checkouts. How does this help me get audiobooks? Because if the ebook also has an audible version, you get both. I’m listening to my first audible book now. There are some cons to this though, as most of the titles that are available are not new releases or even from bigger publishing houses, but there are some series that look good that I’ve decided to give a try and we’ll see. Since I will be traveling a bit for work over the next several weeks, having something to listen to in the car will be a lifesaver!

  1. You’ve got so many books on your post today that I still want to read! The thing about Jelly fish, Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore and The Paper Magician. Gosh – we really need to call off Mondays and JUST READ ON MONDAY.

The get Social blog hop sounds like fun! I also love meme’s, but don’t get to all of them these days. Need to get my focus back!

Thanks for sharing and hope you will have a good week.

  2. Enjoy Kindle Unlimited. I seem to read mostly review books these days and don’t get a chance to read too many from my own TBR mountain so the monthly subscription would mostly be wasted for me. I love reading on my Kindle though. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. I’ll be happy to do a post on Kindle Unlimited after my trial period to let you know what I think of it.

    1. I’m really hoping that it will prove to be a good resource for audiobooks until I move to an area with libraries again {which hopefully won’t be too much longer}. The price isn’t bad and I think I can find enough books to keep me interested in their selection.

  3. I loved Second Chance Cafe, hope you do too. I’ve done Kindle Unlimited a few times–during the months I have it I concentrate my reading there, and then turn it off for a few months. As you said, most of the big name publishers and authors aren’t there. I do better with my library for them.
