As is becoming my Thursday habit, I am linking up with Amanda for Thinking Out Loud again this week!
~ This is NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association) Awareness Week. In honor of this, my Thinking Out Loud post today will include some information about EDs and how you can help. While I do not suffer from an eating disorder personally, there are people in my life who have been affected. Visit the NEDA site to educate yourself.
~ 20 million women and 10 million men in the US suffer from clinically significant eating disorder at some time in their lives and 40-60% of girls aged 6-12 are worried about gaining weight. (source)
~ Eating disorders are “real, complex, devastating conditions that can have serious consequences for health, productivity and relationships.” (source)
~ Take this free, confidential screening if you are concerned you might have an eating disorder.
~ Find help through NEDA or through local organizations such as The Emily Project in Seattle.
** And now a few non ED rambles to close things out…
~ I am “running” my first 5K of 2014 this weekend. I really haven’t been training, so I don’t know how much of it I will actually run, but I am looking forward to it all the same.
~I have a very important post going up tomorrow, addressing what I see as a very serious issue in the blogging world right now. I hope you will come back and read it.
~ I spent about half of my stay-cation over the past weekend sleeping. Apparently my body really needed the rest. It was nice that I didn’t have any major plans and could let myself sleep as late as I wanted (and/or take naps) for those six days.
What are you thinking?
Have you or someone you love been affected by an eating disorder?
